My Week in the 80s
A few nights ago I was watching Rocky IV and my oldest son, who is 18 and never seen a Rocky movie, sat down and started asking me questions. It hit me that he’s now at the age I was when I began discovering more adult-oriented movies. Of course, the Rocky films aren’t too extreme as far as violence or language but it got me thinking about franchises like Rambo, Die Hard, and Terminator.
I remember when I was old enough in the early 90s to rent films that I had missed from the 80s because I was too young to watch. Honestly, it wasn’t about hearing more curse words or seeing more blood-n-guts, but that I was becoming an adult and my parents rule over me was beginning to lessen.
Hopefully my son doesn’t feel like I’ve created too many rules, but the mere fact that he’s now technically old enough to watch some of my favorite action movies has me excited. I still have younger ears in the house, so I’ll have to be selective on viewing times, but I can’t wait to share more 80s films with him.
That was my week in the ‘80s. Enjoy this week’s newsletter and stay rad, everyone! - Jason
